Bible Fact File

The Holy Bible is the most important Book that has ever been written - and the most important Book that you could ever read (see 52-Week Bible Reading Plan). It's the only true and dependable source of information for the origins and future of humanity, as made possible through our Savior Jesus Christ.

The Bible has 3 primary functions:

Bible History - the origin of humanity, and God's dealings with humans until now.
The Way - The Bible reveals why God created humans, and how we are to correctly behave toward Him (the first Four of The Ten Commandments) and other humans (the last Six of The Ten Commandments) (see Christian Living, The Ten Commandments and The Ten Commandments Now?)
Prophecy - God's Plan of Salvation is in progress. There are numerous spectacular earthly events yet to occur. The "age of miracles" is far from over.

Bible Bible Facts and Figures:

The original languages of the Bible were Hebrew (mostly) in the Old Testament, and Greek (mostly) in the New Testament.

There are 39 Old Testament Books (see Old Testament Fact File), and 27 New Testament Books (see New Testament Fact File).

There are 1,189 chapters in the Bible; 929 in the Old Testament, and 260 in the New Testament.

The longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119. The shortest chapter is Psalm 117.

The Bible is God's Word. It was written by inspired men whose writings were guided by The Holy Spirit of God. Over the centuries, many men and women have lost their lives for publishing and distributing The Bible. Many more have died for teaching it. The greatest number however were martyred for obeying it.

The Bible is the True Light that guides us through an otherwise dark world. It's our map of the road to eternal life.
