Aliyya and Haftara

Aliyya, from the Hebrew meaning going up, is the term used for when a Jew is called upon to read a portion of the Torah (i.e. the "Law," based upon the first five Books of the Bible, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy - see The Pentateuch) during Sabbath service. Another reader is also called up to read the Haftara from the prophetic books (see Old Testament Fact File) of Scripture.

The Messiah Was Called Upon To Read Aliyya and Haftara

The Synagogue At Capernaum Jesus Christ was a Jew (see Hate Jews?), racially and religiously, throughout His entire human lifetime (the photograph shows what remains of the Synagogue at Capernaum that Jesus attended i.e. Luke 4:31-32), although the Truth that He spoke was not always welcomed by all.
