Ekron

Ekron, located west of Jerusalem (see Bible Places), was the northernmost of the five towns of the "lords of the Philistines" (Joshua 13:3). In the time of Joshua, after the Israelites entered the land promised to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Ekron was assigned to the tribe of Judah, and later to the tribe of Dan (see Tribal Lands), but subsequently was again taken by the Philistines by the time of Samuel - after the Philistines captured The Ark Of The Covenant, Ekron was the last place where it was taken before they eagerly (because of God's wrath that they were experiencing for having possession of it i.e. 1 Samuel 5:9-10) sent The Ark back to the Israelites. Ekron was also a major center for the worship of the Satanic pagan Baal-zebub, "the god of Ekron" (2 Kings 1:6 - see also Baal-zebub and Beelzebub).

Ekron Ekron's place in Bible History is most notable for the wrath of God that it experienced after the Philistines took the captured Ark of The Covenant there:

Fact Finder: (a) What Israelite king (see Kings of Israel and Judah) foolishly sought help from Baal-zebub, "the god of Ekron"? (b) What prophet (see Prophets) of God rebuked that king for doing so?
(a) 2 Kings 1:2 (b) 2 Kings 1:3 (see also Elijah)
