"But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God, then to wait until His enemies should be made a stool for His feet." (Hebrews 10:12-13 RSV)

Now Our High Priest

Since the time that He left, having successfully offered Himself as the ultimate atoning sacrifice, Jesus Christ is fulfilling the office of High Priest that was merely symbolized by Aaron and the Levitical priesthood in The Tabernacle In The Wilderness and later in the Temple (see Temples) in Jerusalem (see also Type and Antitype):

"But when Christ appeared as a High Priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent, not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, He entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but His own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Therefore He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant." (Hebrews 9:11-15 RSV)

From High Priest To The King Who Will Judge The World

Prior to His return, Jesus Christ will be crowned as King. This ceremony was described by the prophet Daniel, although, because Daniel wrote centuries before Jesus Christ was born as a human, he uses "Ancient of Days" for The Father (because God had not yet begotten the human Jesus in Daniel's time), and "one like a son of man" for Jesus Christ (again, because God had not yet begotten the human Jesus, "one like" the son of man i.e. the descendant of Adam):

"I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His Kingdom one that shall not be destroyed." (Daniel 7:13-14 RSV)

And then The Return Of Jesus Christ:

"Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a Name inscribed which no one knows but Himself. He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the Name by which He is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, followed Him on white horses. From His mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; He will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, King of kings and Lord of lords." (Revelation 19:11-16 RSV)

"Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever. And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, "We give thanks to Thee, Lord God Almighty, Who art and Who wast, that Thou hast taken Thy great power and begun to reign. The nations raged, but Thy wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, for rewarding Thy servants, the Prophets and Saints, and those who fear Thy Name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth." (Revelation 11:15-18)
